VAR Workshop By MLS

Among the different news that has come about for MLS football, it is said that MLS would be looking to host the IFAB workshop that would be held for VAR experimentation.

This is pertaining to video assistant referees who are being considered for football and experiments are on the way. We are all used to seeing referees in action on the fields, but soon there would be virtually referees as well. The second workshop on these experiments is being started in New Jersey and is being hosted by Major League Soccer or MLS.

The workshop first kicked off in the Netherlands in the month of May. Those who are competition organizers and are interested in the potential that this technology brings forth are looking to know further and what the trial period would involve. Those who are taking part in the trials of two years, which will be overseen by IFAB, are meeting again in the second workshop which will span three days. There would be representatives from 20 leagues or more as well as associations for the game across the globe including representation coming in from Australia. MLS is part of the group of six countries who have confirmed that they will participate in the trials and others are joining up as well to understand the protocols that are involved and what would be the practical implications of the same.

JOHN TERRY EYEING MLS FOOTBALL

Former Chelsea skipper, John Terry is eyeing a MLS move according to reports from The Daily Mail.

The veteran defender is set to leave English Premier League giants Chelsea FC at the end of this season and has set his eyes on the North American League.

Terry’s contract is set to expire and the club have not made move to open talks about an extension especially as they plan on making reinforcements when newly appointed coach in Antonio Conte settles at Stamford Bridge. The 35-year-old centre-half has played for eighteen years since making his debut. The player is planning for life after Chelsea and has told his representatives to find an MLS club.

His former team-mates Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole are all in North America and Joe Cole is set to join them when he leaves Coventry for Tampa Bay Rowdies in the NASL. If no MLS makes an offer for his services due to his ‘designated player’ status, he may be forced to take up a lucrative offer from China or the Middle East.

This would mean central defender Terry, who has been paid over £100,000-a-week at Chelsea, could only earn around £5,000-a-week in America because of the MLS wage cap structure. Each MLS club is allowed to sign up to three ‘designated players’ who fall outside the wage cap, such as former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard who earns about £4 million-a-year at New York City. Adrian Heath claimed that the return of Kaka has boosted Team

Orlando City head coach Adrian Heath claimed that the return of Kaka has boosted the team immensely.

He was pleased to see his team ran out 4-1 winners over Portland Timbers. Health felt that this victory was completely deserving of the team’s performance. The former Real Madrid and AC Milan superstar scored upon his return. He had missed the first couple of matches of the MLS campaign due to an injury. Even then, Orlando will be delighted with the start that they have made for the 2016 season. This victory sees them top the table after four matches. They already have a two-point advantage over New England Revolution.

The one issue for Orlando will be conceding the late consolation goal for Portland Timbers. The team would have been happy with a clean sheet. This was the second consecutive win for Orlando after they started the campaign with two draws. Hines opened the scoring after just 13 minutes while Brek Shea came up with a rare league goal in the 32nd minute. LA Galaxy’s Bruce Arena is amazed at the omission of Dos Santos from Mexico

The manager of LA Galaxy was left flabbergasted after seeing the news that Dos Santos was not part of Mexico’s squad that will face off against Argentina on September 9. The Mexican attacker was not included in the friendly game that Mexico played against Trinidad and Tobago either.

Dos Santos has managed to stand out since arriving to LA Galaxy as he signed with the MLS club on July 15 of the ongoing year and so far has been one of the best players on the pitch as he scored 3 goals and provided to his teammates 6 assists during his 6 opening matches as a player of LA Galaxy.

Bruce Arena believes that Dos Santos deserves his place in the upcoming friendly matches of Mexico as he said: “Yeah, I have thoughts about it but it’s certainly not my business.I would just think that they have a pretty good team if Dos Santos wasn’t called up. Those of us who have been with the national team are used to this by now and we know now to adapt as quickly as possible to what a new coach wants. The good thing is that many of us know each other well and how we play already. We just have to adapt to the new philosophy of the new coach.” Continue reading “LA Galaxy’s Bruce Arena is amazed at the omission of Dos Santos from Mexico”
